"Arms Wide Open, Heart Full."
The anhinga bird and lotus flower illustration
I visited the Apopka Wildlife Reserve in Florida. It is known for being home to over 300 bird species. As we drove slowly on the dirt road in the rain, we looked out over the water at the birds and alligators wading in the water. But then, perched on wood sticks above the lake, were large birds. They hold their wings out to dry them in the sun. They felt like they were asking for a moment of silence. A whisper. The dragonflies zipped inside our car windows. The yellow lotus flowers emerged all around them in the thick of the wetlands. I thought to myself, "Arms wide open, heart full."
